How to write your rules and format

Rules And Format holds two sets of rules, one for the auction and one for the tournament. Each has its own editor and its own switch to publish it on your public auction page.

Quick steps

  1. Open your auction and select the Rules And Format tab.
  2. Pick Auction Rules or Tournament Rules at the top.
  3. Edit the sample text in the editor so it matches your league. It saves on its own after 5 seconds.
  4. Optionally copy a Suggested Special Rule, like Power Over, into your rules.
  5. Turn on Show Auction Rules (or Show Tournament Rules) to publish them on your public auction page.

Write your rules

  • Auction Rules

    Optional

How the auction itself runs: team budgets, base price, bid steps, unsold players. Write it in the editor below with headings, bold text, lists, colours and links.

    • Starts with a sample template. Its numbers (50,00,000 points, 50,000 base price, 12 players) are examples, not your Team Structure settings. Edit them to match.
    • Saves automatically 5 seconds after you stop typing and shows “Rules updated successfully”. There is no Save button.
    • If someone else changed the rules meanwhile, you see “Rules were changed elsewhere. Reload the page to see the latest version.” Reload the page and make your change again.
  • Tournament Rules

    Optional

How the tournament after the auction is played: groups, overs, bowling and batting rules. It has its own text, kept separately from the auction rules.

    • Starts with a sample cricket tournament template.
    • Saves automatically, just like Auction Rules.

Publish your rules

  • Show Auction Rules

    Optional

Publishes your auction rules. When it is on, a Rules button appears on your public auction page (/view) and players can read them there.

    • Off for new auctions. It saves as soon as you switch it, together with any rules edit that had not saved yet.
  • Show Tournament Rules

    Optional

Publishes your tournament rules the same way. Switch to Tournament Rules first to see this switch.

    • Off for new auctions. The public Rules button appears when either switch is on.

Helpers

  • Suggested Special Rules

    Optional

Ready-made special formats, such as Power Over and Double Trouble, listed under Auction Rules. Open one to read the details and an example, then use the copy icon and paste it into your rules.

    • Under Tournament Rules the list only holds placeholder entries for now, not real formats.
  • Reset

    Optional

Puts the sample template back for the rules you are viewing (auction or tournament). The reset is saved too.

    • Your own text for that set of rules is replaced, then autosaved.

Common mistakes

  • The template’s budgets and prices are only examples. Copy your real numbers from Auction Details.
  • Switching between Auction Rules and Tournament Rules, turning a Show switch on or off, or opening another tab saves your latest edit straight away. Only closing or reloading the page within 5 seconds of your last edit can lose it.
  • Rules stay private until you turn on the Show switch.
  • Reset replaces your text with the template and saves it. Copy your rules somewhere first if you might want them back.
