How-to Guides

These guides walk you through running an auction on The 12th Men end to end — from logging in to going live and sharing results — plus using the Cricket, Badminton, and Pickleball app. Do the sections in order the first time, or jump to the one you need.

1. Get started

Log in and pick the profile you'll organize under.

  1. Open The 12th Men and enter your mobile number.
  2. Enter the OTP sent to that number and submit. If it does not arrive, wait for the timer, then tap resend.
  3. If your number has more than one profile, pick the one you want. To organize under a new identity, tap Create new profile, fill in name and avatar, and save.
  4. You land on the dashboard, which lists your auctions with their status. Tap any card to open it.

2. Create an auction and set it up

Create the auction, then configure its rules in the Auction Details tab. These settings drive everything that follows, so set them before you invite players.

  1. From the dashboard, tap Create, fill in the required fields, and submit. You land on the new auction’s Auction Details tab.
  2. Set the core rules:
    • Number of teams and purse per team
    • Minimum / maximum players per team
    • Base bid and bid increment steps
  3. Optional: turn on categories to sort players into tiers such as Platinum and Gold. When enabled, set the cap — the max points or players allowed per category. Leave categories off for a simple flat auction.
  4. Optional: turn on team-page bidding so team owners can place bids from their own team page during the live auction.
  5. Save. Your settings persist and now govern registration, player pools, and the live auction.

3. Open player registration

Let players register themselves by sharing a link, and control exactly what the form asks and what the auction view shows.

  1. Open the Player Registration tab.
  2. Enable registration, then copy the link. Share it anywhere — WhatsApp, Slack, or your group. Anyone who opens it gets the registration form.
  3. Customize the form. The form is multi-step; add the fields you need using field types like Radio, Select, and Number (for example, playing role, batting/bowling style, jersey size, age).
  4. Choose display fields. Pick which of those fields appear in the auction view, so bidders see the details that matter while a player is on the block.
  5. When you have enough players, close registration. The link then shows a “registration ended” message and no longer accepts entries.

Players who register are matched by mobile number: an existing 12th Men profile is reused, and new numbers are prompted to create one.

4. Manage players and teams

Build your player pool and your team list. You can mix self-registration with manual entry.

Players — in the Manage Players tab

  1. Add manually through the add-player modal, or import from Excel to add many at once (errors are surfaced row by row).
  2. Assign a category (e.g. Platinum, Gold) to each player; the category shows in the table and the live filter.
  3. Edit any player’s details or delete an entry; the live pool updates immediately.
  4. Adding a player by mobile number ties them to that user’s account, and you can download the pool as PDF or export to Excel.

Teams — in the Team Registration / Manage Teams tabs

  1. Enable the team-registration link and share it so owners can register their teams.
  2. Owners log in and complete team registration; returning owners with an existing profile skip the create step.
  3. Approve pending teams — approved teams become active and appear as team cards.
  4. Export team lists, team images, or players as PDF / Excel when you need a copy.

5. Payments, sponsors and rules

Collect registration fees, credit your sponsors, and publish the rules — all optional, but do them before you go public.

  1. Payment methods. Choose how registrants pay:
    • Cash — add a fee per player and/or per team, tracked in the app.
    • Online — enable online payment with your bank details (Razorpay or equivalent).
    • Scanner / UPI — upload a QR code shown on the registration form.
  2. Payment summary. After registrations come in, open the summary to reconcile — the totals should match the number of player and team registrations.
  3. Sponsors. Add each sponsor with an image and title; they appear on the auction pages. Add without an image or title and you’ll get a validation prompt.
  4. Rules & format. Enter your rules, toggle show rules on, and save. The public rules page (/view/rules) then matches what you set.

6. Run the live auction

This is auction day. Start it, put players on the block, and let teams bid.

  1. Start the auction — tap Start (or open /live). The status goes live and the auction UI loads.
  2. Put a player on the block. Select a player; their card shows to everyone. Use the category filter to work through tiers.
  3. Take bids. Bids follow your increment steps. The current bid and remaining purse update as you go.
  4. Close each player:
    • Sold — pick the winning team; the player is assigned and that team’s purse drops.
    • Unsold — no winning bid; the player is marked unsold and can be re-auctioned later.
  5. Owner bidding (if enabled) — owners bid from their team page; you can also mark sold/unsold on their behalf. Owners are limited to a set number of passes.
  6. Retain / booster — retain a player at a set value, or apply a booster to adjust points; the purse updates accordingly.
  7. End the auction — from Manage features, choose End and confirm. The status moves to Completed and an “ended” banner shows.

If a device briefly goes offline, a reconnect banner appears and the live state re-syncs — no action needed.

7. After the auction and sharing

Wrap up, form groups if you need them, and share results publicly.

  1. Completion. Once all players are sold, a completion modal appears. If your format uses groups, choose Create groups.
  2. Spin the wheel (optional) — open the spin view to assign teams to groups, then save.
  3. View pages. The read-only views show your results: players, teams, and rules. The player view reflects the display fields you chose earlier.
  4. Public links. Share the auction view link (Share → copy link); anyone can open it, and link previews show your auction name and logo. A public auction is readable without login.
  5. Tournament tab. Create or link a tournament from the auction’s Tournament tab to carry teams into fixtures.
  6. Clone. To run a similar event again, clone the auction from the dashboard or menu — it copies your settings into a fresh auction.

8. Using the 12th Men app (Cricket, Badminton & Pickleball)

Beyond auctions, The 12th Men is a sports app for playing, scoring, and running tournaments. Cricket, Badminton, and Pickleball share the same flow — only the match formats differ — so the steps below apply to all three. Pick your sport once and the app switches to it.

Get started and pick your sport

  1. Log in with your mobile OTP and create or update your profile (name, photo, bio).
  2. Select your sport — Cricket, Badminton, or Pickleball. The home screen and stats switch to it. Your career stats are per-sport (cricket: batting/bowling; badminton & pickleball: singles/doubles).

Discover and follow

  • The home feed shows matches, tournaments, and clubs for your sport. Use global search to find any of them.
  • Follow a tournament or club to see it in your lists; My Matches and My Tournaments collect what you’re part of.
  • Create a team (name + logo), add or remove squad players, and let others join via an invite link.

Play a casual match (score a game without a tournament)

  • Cricket: create a limited-overs or test match, add squads, assign captain and wicket-keeper, record the toss, and start the innings.
  • Badminton & Pickleball: create a singles (2 players) or doubles (4 players) match, pick the format and first server.

Run a tournament

  1. Create the tournament with name and dates. Cricket adds overs, ball, and pitch settings; you can also make it category-based, enable fantasy, or link it to a club.
  2. Add teams and players in the Teams and Players tabs.
  3. Build the structure — create rounds (league or knockout), create/update groups, then auto-schedule a round-robin or add matches manually.
  4. Assign organisers and scorers so the right people can manage and score matches.
  5. Open registration — set the window, fee, and custom fields; players self-register from the app and you see their status.

Score live and track results

  • Live scoring: cricket scores ball-by-ball (runs 0–6, extras like wide / no-ball / bye) with a live scorecard and commentary; badminton and pickleball score point-by-point.
  • Standings & stats: the points table and NRR update after each match; leaderboard and player-of-the-match, per-player stats, and an NRR scenario calculator are available. Fantasy tournaments add a fantasy leaderboard.

This app is mobile-first. Share a tournament link and it opens directly in the app.

9. On mobile

You can run everything from a phone — The 12th Men installs as an app (PWA).

  • Install it. Open the site in your phone browser and add it to your home screen; it opens full-screen like a native app.
  • Live controls. On the live screen, Sold / Unsold and the player card are tap-friendly on a phone viewport.
  • Add players on the go. The add-player modal scrolls, and all fields stay reachable and focusable while typing.
  • If something fails. On a network error the app offers a retry/refresh instead of a blank screen.
