How to draw teams into groups with Spin the Wheel
Spin the Wheel draws your auction’s teams into groups at random, one spin per team, right from the live screen. The draw is saved as you go, you can fine tune it by dragging teams, and for cricket it can become your tournament’s groups.

Open the wheel
Spin the Wheel
OptionalOpens the wheel from the menu button at the bottom right of the live screen. It sits in the menu while the auction is live, before, during or after the bidding.
- Only while the auction is Live. Before you start it, or once it has ended, the live screen does not show the menu.
- Only auction admins and organizers can open it.
- Needs at least 2 teams. With fewer you see "Need at least 2 teams in this auction to spin the wheel."
Create Groups
OptionalWhen the last player is sold, the live screen asks "Auction Complete!". Select Create Groups to jump straight to the wheel, or Not Now to skip it. If groups are already saved, this question is skipped.
Set up the draw
Number of groups
RequiredHow many groups to split your teams into. The first screen asks "How many groups should the N teams be split into?"; groups are named Group A, Group B, Group C and so on.
- Starts at 2.
- A whole number of at least 1. Empty, 0 or a decimal shows "Group count cannot be less than 1".
- No more than the number of teams. Otherwise "Group count cannot be more than the number of teams".
- Start Spin stays disabled until the number is valid.
Example: 2
Start Spin
RequiredPuts every team on the wheel and shows the empty groups next to it, with "N teams left to place" above the wheel.
Spin and adjust
Click to spin
RequiredSpins the wheel once. It picks one remaining team at random; the red pointer on the right shows where it lands. That team leaves the wheel and joins a group.
- One team per spin. Spin once for every team.
- Groups fill in turn: 1st team to Group A, 2nd to Group B, 3rd back to Group A, and so on, so sizes differ by at most one.
- A spin takes about 10 seconds; the last team takes about 5.
- Each result is saved as soon as the wheel stops ("Groups saved!"). The button shows Saving… until then, and you cannot spin again before it finishes.
- Close the page or refresh and your draw is kept. Reopen Spin the Wheel to carry on with the teams still on the wheel.
Drag and drop teams to change groups
OptionalOnce "All teams placed!" shows, drag a team chip from one group into another, for example to keep two local rivals apart.
- Dragging only works after every team is placed.
- Groups can end up with different sizes. Nothing stops a group from being empty.
Save Changes
OptionalSaves the groups after you have moved teams around.
- Appears once every team is placed, and is enabled only after you move a team.
- Moves are not saved until you select it. Leaving the page first discards them.
Start over
Reset groups?
OptionalSelect Reset at the top right to clear the saved groups and put every team back on the wheel. The dialog lets you change Number of groups at the same time.
- The same Number of groups rules apply; Reset is disabled while the number is invalid.
- It cannot be undone. Select Cancel to keep your groups.
Where your groups are used
Create tournament groups?
OptionalFor cricket auctions, after you end the auction and create a new tournament from the Tournament tab, this dialog offers your saved groups. Adjust them by dragging, then select Yes, create groups to add them to the tournament under a new "League Match" round.
- Only when creating a new tournament, not when editing one that already exists.
- Teams are matched by name, so do not rename teams between the draw and the tournament.
- A group with fewer than 2 teams is not created.
- Not offered for badminton or pickleball yet.
Common mistakes
- The wheel only works while the auction is live. Run the draw before you end the auction.
- Groups are only visible to organizers on this screen. The projector, overlay and public pages do not show the wheel or the groups, so put the live screen on the big screen if you want everyone to watch.
- After you leave the wheel, the A/S/P/M view is cleared. Select A to bring the bidding controls back.
- Every team on the auction goes on the wheel, even one still pending approval. Remove teams you do not want in the draw before you spin.
- Reset cannot be undone. If you only want to swap two teams, drag them and select Save Changes instead.
